November 7-9, 2001
Las Vegas, Nevada

The Art Libraries Society/Mountain West Chapter will host its Annual Conference on

The airport is only ten minutes from the hotels downtown and from the UNLV campus. Taxi is the best transportation to the hotels, but you could check with your hotel about a shuttle service.

HOTEL RECOMMENDATIONS:
Since we will be meeting on campus, there is no "room block" or one specific hotel. Hotels within walking distance of campus are a prime choice, though you could stay at a strip hotel and take a taxi to campus [campus is ten minutes from the strip, the cost for a cab will be $6-$8]. Closest strip hotels are Bellagio, Bally's, Caesar's Palace, Paris, Luxor, New York New York, and Aladdin.

Costs for Vegas hotels are on a sliding scale. The fewer people in the hotel, the cheaper the rate [which is why we are NOT holding the conference on the weekend]. So book early [NOW], but then call back close to the date and see if there is a cheaper rate available!
Hotels within walking distance to the campus [Swenson and Harmon, Paradise and Harmon -- see map of campus above) are the Alexis Park, Embassy Suites, the Hard Rock, and AmeriSuites.

Some of the hotels are already fully booked, so make your reservations soon!

Lots of greenery. No gambling. All suites, quoted at $99-109. Great for roommates! They have an agreement with the Hard Rock across the street for their guests to use the Hard Rock's shuttle to the strip. Phone: 702-796-3322.

Definitely gambling and lots of Vegas ambience. Shuttle to the strip. Phone: 702-693-5000.

Embassy Suites. Swenson and Harmon

Non-gambling, non-smoking. All suites -- 2 double beds and pull-out queen sofa -- easily fits three. Shuttle to strip is willing to take you to the campus too. Complimentary breakfast. They quoted me a rate of $179. Phone: 702-795-2800.

AmeriSuites. Paradise and Harmon

Suites, $89 special Internet rate [see web page, subject to change without warning]. Non-gambling, non-smoking from 5th floor down. Their airport/strip shuttle is willing to drive you over to the campus [and according to the web page anywhere within 5 miles]. Complimentary breakfast. Phone: 702-369-3366.

Perhaps we could use the list to at least gather clusters of folks at each hotel, so people can walk together to meeting on campus.
